Irritations

1. My outlook express is acting up. There are items in my sent box and inbox that simply will not delete! Have any of you experienced this? If so, can you help me? I've done a virus scan, re-booted, and tried the online support for Microsoft. No solutions yet.....
2. Nathan has a peer in his class that is allergic to FISH! So in addition to not being able to have peanut butter in his sandwiches, now he can't have tuna. I am super annoyed as that leaves the deli meat option which isn't healthy to eat everyday. What's left? Cheese? Jam? He won't eat egg salad unfortunately :( Sigh.....it just sucks.

Cook a whole chicken or roast, and give him the meat from those in a sandwich? That is frustrating. Losing peanut butter is already a whammie, but tuna is a lunch food staple!

Seriously........peanut butter and tuna are both out.......seriously?!?! Um, will schools be started a cafeteria then?!?!?! Seriously, major soapbox on this one.....

How do the boys feel about Prem?!?!?

I don't use Outlook Express, so I have no advice for you on this one.

As for the lunches, what about a bagel with cream cheese or cheese & crackers. Does he have access to a microwave? If so, how about dinner leftovers in his lunch? My girls used to love that.

How about cashew butter or almond butter instead of peanut butter? Isaiah has a peanut allergy boy in his class and that's what I do instead... My boys also love soup in a thermos with crackers, chicken salad and a bun, or natchos with cheese and salsa on the side. The allergy thing is so annoying because these kids need to live in the real world the rest of the time.

Theoretically a school could ban lunch, period, if there were a great number of different allergies. I would suggest a school for alergic kids. That way the many are not inconvenienced because of the few. Seriously.

You can get some nicely flavored hummus (made from chick peas) It makes a nice spread on bread, crackers, etc.

That was my comment.

I cook chicken, chop it up, add salt, chopped celery, onion and mayonnaise...and put it on bread...our kids love it. Can't believe you can be allergic to tuna...never heard of that before. Hope your outlook problem gets solved...I won't be of any help in that area. :(

My hubby's idea is to send him Twinkies for lunch...totally unhealthy...I think it's what he would like for lunch everyday. :)

As a Mom of a daughter WITH a peanut allergry I think this is so STUPID! If a childs allergies are that severe they should be homeschooled. You can't tell me they won't come in contact with peanuts or tuna at any other place the go. Just wrong.

Email the school board... and tell them what I think :)

Vanessa had the same ban in her class but it was kindergarten so it wasn't hard to keep those things out of her lunch. I could see how it would be hard on Nathan. I guess the best suggestions are taken! It's not easy or fun making lunches, and banning 'staples' is not fair.
The severely anaphalactic should be homeschooled or have a 'peanut free lunch room' to eat in. They could choose a buddy to go with them each day and it would be safe and everyone would be happy!

PS....it's back to peanut butter and tuna in high school :) No peanut free zones there!

Homeschooled.....seriously?

We live in an age where we teach our kids to be tolerant of other peoples cultures, religions and lifesyles, but take away our peanut butter sandwich and watch out. As a mom of a little one with an allergy, I am so saddened to read some of these comments. My heart is thumping so loud as I write this to think that's how people feel about MY DAUGHTER. I too, find lunch alternatives due to classmates allergies, so I understand the challenges. I also recognize that some people use the word 'allergic' a little too loosely and this can be irritating for people finding other options when the child isn't even anaphylactic.

This is really not like me to post a comment like this. I've often listened to people complain and said nothing. For some reason, reading it in print hit me hard. Who knows this is probably too long to post anyhow. lol! I suppose I'm hoping that MAYBE after reading this, you can consider if it were your child. After all, don't we all tell our kids to consider others?

Sorry for the long post, and again I do understand the frustration when it's not your kid....just imagine how frustrating it is when it is!

PS. Hopefully a vaccine will be available soon and all will go back to the way it was before peanut allergies! :)
