A Family Adventure

On Sunday we headed down to Fort Casey on Whidbey Island. A bit of a drive but it's very beautiful and quite worth it in our opinion.

We grabbed some subs in Burlington and were very famished by the time we got to the park. A wrong turn ensured that we arrived later than planned!
After we replenished our tummies we began to explore this most unique place. So much to see!

There were a good number of other tourists around and the parking lot was mostly Washington plates but we did see a Florida, South Carolina and a few BC vehicles.

I say...is there anyone in there?!

Watching the ferry come and go was a highlight for Liam.
The weather was high overcast most of the day but the sun did peek out a few times. The wind kept everything at a very nice temperature.

I've learned to bring plenty of liquid for my gang. The all drink like fish! Here we are stopping for a break before we walk over the Admiral Point to see the lighthouse.

A lone artist sketching the lighthouse.
She's a pretty one. I can only imagine that very good camera could have given it proper justice!

We climbed up to the top of the lighthouse. It was very hot and stuffy up there. We took a cursory look around and went back down.
The light keepers house was open for tours as well. I loved this quilt!
And here are my two big lads walking back to the main area of the park. We decided to spend some time on the beach before we left.

This was Liam's element. He tossed rocks in the ocean for a solid hour!
I think Nathan has the advantage in this picture....
Chad happily showing his special rock collection. What don't know is that shortly before this Liam had thrown a rock at Chad's forehead and given him a nasty goose egg. A public spanking (eeks), wailing and many tears ensued. Yeah...that was fun.
But things settled back down and all was well.
I spotted some pretty beach flowers on our way back up from the beach.
And by now it was 6 pm and time to head home. We left Whidbey Island with windburned faces, happy memories and empty tummies. We stopped in Burlington for supper and got home around 10 pm. A very full and fun family adventure!

Sigh...I miss family adventures now that my two boys are almost grown up and have better things to do than spend time with dear ol' mom and dad...looks like you had a great day!

That looks like a fun place to explore. We've taken our girls to similar places when they were younger and they really enjoyed it.
