Honouring

Each of these movies have really touched my heart in regards to warfare.  They are so well done, gripping, awful, touching and I really think you ought to watch at least one of them!  They don't glorify war but are brutally real.  The words on the pages of a text book could never move me as much as seeing it portrayed in a film.
Take a moment to be thankful for these brave men and women of our past.

I haven't seen Band of Brothers or The Pacific but I want to. I have Band of Brothers here to read actually. I remember the first time I saw Saving Private Ryan, I just sat there in shock for the first 20 minutes and then cried the rest of the movie. I think one of the most moving books I have ever read about WW2 was Forgotten Voices of The Holocaust. It's a collection of personal accounts and stories. It's very real, very raw and very moving.

I don't think I've seen any of these. But I worked in a nursing home for 10 years and will never forget the stories I heard. Especially from one of my favorite ladies named Ruby. She was a nurse in the war and told us of how they would save lives as their tent hospital was being attacked. How operations would continue by flashlight when the power was cut. How she was forced to amputate legs and arms with the help of other soldiers when the doctors had too many soldiers to tend to. I loved being on shift the morning of Nov. 11th so I could dress our veterans up in their finest attire and make sure they got the respect they deserve. Thank you to Ruby, Mr. L, and Mr. S for sharing your stories with me.

A recent read and favourite book, for me, on the subject, is "Unbroken". Pacific theater, air warfare, survival on the water, prisoner of war, and most amazing finish for a most amazing man, and all true and well documented.
