Boxing Day for the Animals - Day 6

My parents took us all to the zoo for our Christmas present....we thought the holiday was present enough but they insisted. Thank you!

We arrived in time for the feeding of the giraffe. I got to feed this handsome fella which I found to be quite similar to feeding a horse.

Very beautiful animals.

This zoo specialized in animals, flora and fauna all from different desert systems. No polar bears here! More like mountain lions, cheetahs, turtles, camels, mountain goats, warthogs, bobcats, badgers, wolves and the like.

Liam fell in love with this pretty little goat in the petting area.

I'm not sure if the goats felt the same way about Liam.

We stopped mid-morning to watch an animal show in their outdoor theatre. It was superb.
The host was entertaining and witty. We even got to experience some huge raptors flying right over our heads!

It's a huge zoo with a large section of park devoted to miles and miles of miniature train tracks and model trains. Liam was in his glory.

The butterfly and humming bird garden was really interesting.

The boys each got to hold a wee little butterfly.

We stopped for turkey sandwiches at lunch. The weather was a bit cool that day with a high overcast.

After lunch we found the cactus garden.

Liam had a 45 minutes power snooze.

Taking pictures of trees one never gets to see in BC!
The Mexican wolf thinking about which photographer looks the tastiest.

Stepping out from behind the camera to show that I was actually there too! Can't wait to see Andrew's pictures...I'm positive they'll be incredible.

Chad loves turtles and would really like to have one for a pet. This is as good as it gets buddy!

What do you think of my Dad's holiday beard? I like it.

All the recent rain made for some beautiful desert blossoms.

Along with every variety of cactus one would like to see there was also a state of the art veterinary clinic we were able to tour. It was Sunday so there were no exams in progress but the public are able to watch the animals get checked through the observation windows.

Winding down at the end of the day...ready to head home. Liam walked most of the afternooon. He's beyond sitting in a stroller for an entire day. He's a bit kamakaze and was all over the place...even ran into a thistle bush and scratched his face real good!

Bye bye Living Zoo...you were well worth the visit.

We got home with a good appetite. My parents opted for turkey leftovers but our little family was ready for some eats we can't get in Canada. CPK was the winner! My pizza was so yummy.....I can't even tell you! Those Americans have the best eateries.

We were beat after supper and headed to bed at a decent hour for the next day promised to be even LONGER!
